In December last year, Voice-Swap teamed up with Beatport’s LabelRadar and house music legend Robert Owens on a first-of-its-kind competition. Producers and artists were offered the chance to create an original piece of music using Robert’s AI voice model, created by Voice-Swap, and submit their entry to LabelRadar. The winner would have their Robert AI voice re-sung by Robert himself and have the track released on his label Musical Directions. 

We closed to the competition in late January, and after listening through all the entrants, we can now reveal that Robert has chosen Roberto Vetere’s track ‘Knock Me Off My Feet’ as the winner! That means Robert will now get in the studio and re-record the track’s vocal line for real and release it on his label. Roberto has also won a year's subscription to Voice-Swap Ultimate tier, 75 LabelRadar credits, a Loopcloud Studio annual membership, a Lifeline Expanse Lite plugin via Plugin Boutique and a Lifeline Console Lite plugin via Plugin Boutique. Robert Owens was impressed by the quality of all of the competition entrants, adding: “It was difficult narrowing down to the one winner as several tracks relayed a beautiful identity of their own. I chose the winner that I felt had energy similar to [tracks] I’m playing in DJ sets, which evoke an energetic groove and vocal message.” 

The competition was the first to harness ethical AI voice technology to encourage collaboration. AI voice tech has the potential to redefine how vocalists work with producers in the studio and remotely, and this competition was the perfect example of how the future might look. While producers were given access to Robert’s AI voice, the ultimate prize was a collaboration with the man himself, showing how AI can be used to augment but not replace singers. 

Voice-Swap’s CEO Ausrine Skarnulyte added: “Listening to the track submissions was an unforgettable experience. It was fun, inspiring, and deeply fulfilling. Most importantly, it was reassuring, as it confirmed that we, as a company, are on the right path. We’ve not only enabled connections that previously seemed challenging but contributed to the creation of original and copyrightable works.”
