How Voice-Swap is Actively Shaping the AI Debate

April 7, 2025

by Mike Pelczynski

AI-generated content is already reshaping creative industries, but without enforceable legal safeguards, artists, rightsholders, and ethical AI innovators risk being sidelined in favour of unchecked technological expansion. The government has a choice: establish meaningful protections that balance innovation with creator rights—or allow AI companies to dictate the terms at the expense of human creativity. At Voice-Swap, we’re not just advocating from the sidelines—we’re actively shaping the debate. Through the Creative Rights In AI Coalition (CRAIC) and various other roundtable discussions and initiatives, we've been engaging policymakers at every level to push for real, enforceable solutions. Here’s what we’re fighting for, as outlined in our formal submission to the UK Government’s AI & Copyright consultation: 💷 AI inference = a payable event → If an AI-generated voice, likeness, or work derives value from an artist’s identity, the artist must be compensated. 🔎 Transparency isn’t optional → AI companies must disclose what copyrighted materials they train on and prove they have the right to use them. Without legally enforced transparency, copyright protections are meaningless. 📖 Ethical AI is already possible—let’s codify it → The UK has the chance to lead by example. The alternative? Letting big tech’s “permissionless innovation” create a walled garden and dictate the future of UK creative industries. The Political Frontline: Where We Are Now 🗣️ The Consultation → The British government's proposals to clarify copyright laws have generated an unprecedented level of interest, with the Intellectual Property Office receiving over 11,000 responses. 📜 Data Bill is in front of Parliament → Baroness Kidron has presented an argument to strengthen and enforce existing copyright law by ensuring transparency from operators of web crawlers and AI models regarding their identity, purposes, and use of copyrighted materials. ✊🏻 Industry-wide momentum is growing → Make It Fair campaign is bringing more voices to Westminster, while leading creative organisations, are collectively pushing for licensing and transparency requirements in AI policy. ⌛️ Time is running out → The AI copyright amendments will be debated again in the coming weeks. Now is the moment to rally support, refine economic arguments, and ensure policymakers understand the consequences of inaction. This is a defining moment—not just for AI policy, but for the future of creative work. The UK has an opportunity to lead in responsible AI innovation, ensuring technology enhances, rather than exploits, human creativity. Voice-Swap is here to make sure that happens. If you’re in the creative, music, or media space, now is the time to engage. Contact us at info [at] voice-swap.ai
