DDEX was formed in 2006. It develops the international standards that record companies, publishers, rights organisations, digital services and technology providers use to exchange data and information across the digital music value chain. These standards are developed by members and then made freely available for industry-wide implementation.
As a Full Member, Voice-Swap will contribute practical experience in voice identity, authorisation, provenance and rights data. That experience matters more as AI voice becomes part of established creation, production and commercial workflows.
The membership comes as the industry increasingly confronts a question that goes beyond whether content was generated using AI. The harder question is whether the human identity represented in that content was authorised for that particular use. Transparency can identify the presence of AI. It cannot, by itself, establish whether a particular voice was authorised, whether that permission is still valid, or whether the resulting use falls within the scope originally granted. Voice-Swap sees interoperable metadata as an important part of the answer. That metadata connects voice models to identity, authority and permitted scope as content moves through the digital supply chain.

Voice-Swap's work focuses on making authorised voice models a reliable source of truth for identity and permissions. With that in place, relevant parties can confirm four things: the model used, the identity represented, the authority behind it and the permitted scope of use.
Within DDEX, Voice-Swap intends to contribute to practical requirements including voice-model identity, consent and authorisation metadata, usage-scoped permissions, provenance and rights reporting. Full Membership gives Voice-Swap a formal route to bring that experience into the standards process, alongside record companies, publishers, rights organisations, digital services and technology providers across the global music ecosystem.
